Fond Du Lac LightThis light is located at the foot of lake Winnebago, at the harbor entrance to Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac Wi.  Lake Winnebago is approximately 9 miles wide by 23 miles long.  The " Cape Cod " design lighthouse is 44 ft from the ground to the observation deck, and 12 ft from the deck to the top of the light.  This information came from an article in the Fond du Lac paper covering the restoration of the light in 1966. Fond du Lac Lighthouse has eight sides and a 10 foot foundation of flagstone and concrete.  In September of 1932, local lumber man W.J. Nuss made an offer to the city, with help from architect Roger Sutherland, to erect a lighthouse at the entrance of the harbor.  When accepted, all materials for the construction of the lighthouse were supplied by private donors and the construction was completed by the unemployed in May of 1933, during the Depression.  The cornerstone was laid July 10, 1933 and in October the stairs were altered to allow the public to climb to the top. The light is open seasonally to the public.  The lighthouse is equipped with a flashing red light. Information on the light was obtained from the Fond du Lac Convention Bureau.
